How to prevent the coronavirus spread?
Below is presented information concerning the coronavirus spread prevention. Please remember that in search of proven sources of knowledge based on scientific evidence, the best idea is to visit the websites of Chief Sanitary Inspectorate, Ministry of Health and National Health Fund.
1. Wash your hands frequently
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water. If you have no access to them, use alcohol-based liquids/gels (min. 60%). Frequent hand washing reduced the infection risk.
2. Wear a face mask in public areas
Remember about the obligation to wear a face mask in public areas. Additionally, use them always when you have symptoms such as cough or hay fever - thanks to this you will reduce the risk of infecting the people around you. The mask should cover your mouth and nose, and fit close to your face.
3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
Your hands touch many areas that may be contaminated. If you touch your eyes, nose or mouth with contaminated hands, you may carry the virus from the area to yourself.
4. Regularly wash or disinfect the surfaces that you touch
The areas which you frequently use should be carefully disinfected. Wash regularly desks, counters, tables, handles, light switches and handrails with water with soap or disinfecting agent.
5. Regularly disinfect your telephone and do not use it while eating
Pathogenic microorganisms very easily gather on the surface of mobile phones. Disinfect your mobile phone regularly (e.g. with wet tissues saturated with disinfecting agents). Do not put your mobile phone on the table during a meal and do not use it while eating meals.
6. Keep safe distance from your interlocutor
Keep 1-2 metre distance between yourself and a person who is coughing, sneezing and has a fever.
7. Apply protection rules while sneezing and coughing
Cover your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough and sneeze. Next dispose of the tissue immediately in a closed waste bin and wash your hands with soap and water, and if you have no access to them, use alcohol-based liquids/gels Covering your mouth and nose when you cough and sneeze prevents germs and viruses from spreading.
8. Eat heathily and remember to hydrate your organism
Apply a sustainable diet. Avoid highly processed food. Remember to eat at least 5 portions of vegetables and fruit every day. Keep your organism properly hydrated. Drink about 2 litres of liquids a day (ideally mineral water).
9. Use only proven sources of knowledge about coronavirus
Do not panic. Try to act reasonably in fight against coronavirus. Use only proven sources of knowledge based on scientific evidence, published on the websites of Chief Sanitary Inspectorate, Ministry of Health and National Health Fund.
Method for preparing your own hand disinfection liquid
Due to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus risk, specialists from the Institute of Chemistry at the University of Silesia in Katowice prepare a liquid for disinfecting hands. According to the scientists, everyone of us may prepare a virus killing solution in home conditions. It is enough to have ethyl alcohol (e.g. spirit), glycerine, hydrogen peroxide and distilled/boiled water, mixed in the right proportions (the target content of alcohol in the liquid should be 70-80%). The most important thing, however, is not to forget about the basic hygienic rules, such as e.g. precise hand washing.
In order to obtain detailed information about the characteristics and and occurrence of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, as well as COVID-19 disease prevention, we recommend visiting the website of the Ministry of Health (here). In order to obtain detailed information on preparing the disinfection liquid, we recommend referring to WHO guide available here.
WHO recommendations for preparing homemade disinfecting solution
Ingredients for preparing 100 ml of liquid:
- 83.5 ml of ethyl alcohol (e.g. spirit 96%)
- 4 ml of hydrogene peroxide
- 1.5 ml of glycerine
- 11 ml of distilled (or boiled) water
The ingredients should be mixed in the above-provided sequence, using the proper measures and paddles. The liquid should be stored in tightly closed plastic or glass containers (optionally with a dispenser). Each package should be properly labelled.
Please be careful while preparing and using the liquid. Remember that ethanol is easily flammable and that you may be allergic to some of the ingredients.
