The guidelines for the University
From 30 September, the Guidelines on safe functioning of universities and other educational subjects in the epidemic published by the Ministry of National Education, based on which the rules for the organisation of education at the University of Silesia in the academic year 2021/2022 have been determined. The priority of the University of Silesia is to ensure access to education and research on the highest possible level at the same time ensuring the safety of all members of the academic community.
The rules for the organisation of education at the University of Silesia in the academic year 2021/2022
Organisation of education
- Classes at the University of Silesia are conducted as on-site courses in principle.
- The scope of classes realised as online courses has been determined by the Faculty Committees, Education and Student Affairs Committees and degree programmes Educational Councils.
- On the faculties websites, there are published guidelines on education in the winter semester 2021/2022 and schedules indicating their realisation (on-site courses, online courses, or blended courses).
- Classes within the University Educational Offer (OOD) and special educational programmes (e.g. tutoring) can be conducted online.
Preventing the spread of the SARS-CoV-2
- Covering your mouth and nose with a mask is compulsory in all common areas, including classes.
- The obligation does not apply to the lecturers as well as students and PhD students while answering.
- Classes and meetings in small groups (of up to 5 people) can be conducted without the need of covering mouth and nose, provided that all participants gave their consent.
- It is required to keep social distance and regularly wash your hands, whereas airing and disinfecting classrooms is a necessary standard.
- The University of Silesia recommends and strongly encourages to get vaccinated as well as gives quick access to vaccination for all interested members of the academic community. Conducting remote classes
- The decision about conducting classes as fully or partially remote can be taken by (according to the rules stipulated by a dean of a faculty):
- degree programme director − concerning classes at 1st cycle studies, 2nd cycle studies, long-cycle studies;
- head of doctoral studies – concerning classes at doctoral studies;
- head of postgraduate studies in agreement with the head of the Centre for Postgraduate Studies;
- coordinator of special educational programmes, e.g. tutoring.
- The decision about conducting classes remotely at doctoral schools is taken by deans of doctoral schools.
Periodical conducting remote classes
- Classes that were to be conducted on-site can be conducted remotely for a fixed period of time with consent by a degree programme director or a dean of a doctoral school, accordingly.
- Participants must be informed at least 24 hours in advance about switching to remote mode.
Exams and credits
- Exams and credits are to be conducted in an on-site mode.
- In justified cases, it is possible to conduct the verification of learning outcomes in a remote mode.
Consultations and office hours
- Consultations and office hours of the academics for students, PhD students, and participants of postgraduate studies will be conducted in an on-site mode in the buildings of the University of Silesia.
- In justified cases, it is possible to conduct consultations and office hours in a remote mode.
Currently, at the University of Silesia, we have level 1 COVID-19 security status (marked with yellow). The operation is compliant with the regulation for that security status stipulated in the Rector’s Regulation No. 179 of 16 October 2020.. The regulations for that level will be adjusted to the current guidelines within the following days.
