Guidelines for conducting online exams and credits
Below is presented the proposed method for verification of knowledge and skills remotely (based on Ordinance no. 71/2020 of 19 May 2020 of the Rector of the University of Silesia on the method of further conduct of classes and rules for conducting exams and credits in the summer exam session of academic year 2019/2020 and attached instructions).
Most important information:
- proper conduct of an exam is supervised by the Dean or a person auhorised by the Dean;
- the form and course of an exam must be documented - this is understood as audio recording, audio-video recording, entry in system event logbook, documentation of the course of an exam (note including start and end time, questions asked, awarded grade, short report in Word file or on the meeting chat).
Proposal for preparation of exam or credit:
- Choose the platform or communicator through which you will perform verification – more info in video tutorials tab
- platform – Moodle (instructions: test exam);
- we also recommend the following video tutorials: How to add a quiz? and - How to add a question: true-false, single-choice, multiple-choice, short response;
- platform – Microsoft Office 365 (instructions: oral exam and individual consultations) we also recommend video tutorials: Test exam in Teams and Forms - creating and planning and Test exam in Teams and Forms - completing and assessing.
In the case of a lack of technical capacities of the platform, you can choose a different tool compliant with the requirements of students’ personal data protection, approved by the Dean.
For exams and practical credits – tool adapted for the specific nature of module implementation and form of evaluated work (especially artistic) – approved by the Dean.
If possible, credits and exams should be conducted within the same platform that we used for working with students before. This is because they are familiar with the platform through which we conducted classes.
- Plan the process of knowledge verification and define its form:
Think about the course of credit or exam, choose the form which will be best in the context of remote exam session. Take into consideration your own educational goals and philosophy of teaching, as well as the capacities of the selected tools. Make sure that your students have access to the platform selected by you.
Consider the possibility to verify skills and competencies, as well as select the sources of information – such capacities are created by the exam formula which includes open book, project paper, essay. Verification can also be based on the application of knowledge gained in practical context, which students may use in the future.
- Share the schedule of credits and exams with your students.
Set the date and form of verification through USOSweb, e-mail or other previously chosen tool.
